Two Quilters Have Teamed UpJ&L Quilters is a team of two quilters--Joan Taylor & Linda Lovett.
Our PurposeThe purpose of this website is to display the finished quilts and ongoing projects available for sell made by this team. Joan designs the quilt tops and does all the piecing. Linda supplies the fabric and finishes the quilts including machine quilting and hand binding. That is, unless Joan provides the fabric and does the binding while Linda pieces & quilts.
On a special mission these days, Joan is REQUESTING FABRIC FOR VETERAN QUILTS Joan's storyA West Virginia country girl, Joan has been quilting since childhood when it was a life necessity to do so. She loves to piece quilt tops and sews every day. In her own words ...
Dec 16, 2016: "Thinking about my beautiful, talented, creative and amazing "Mom." It's been 27 years today that she passed away and I don't think a day goes by that I don't think of her. Her life was "difficult" to say the least. Just giving birth to 15 children was incredible. Those of you who know our family know we were dirt poor (understatement). I can't begin to imagine the anguish and heartache she felt as she struggled on a daily basis to care for us. At times, we weren't sure we would have something to eat and yet she would come up with a loaf of bread and sprinkle sugar over it. In particular, I think of her at Christmas as she always found a way to make it special for us. There are many examples of her incredible creativity but one in particular comes to mind this Christmas - she came up with two old dolls discarded by someone and refurbished them for my sister and me. She even made little wedding gowns to dress them in (I still have the dress from mine). We didn't get "new" clothes... mostly they were hand-me-downs that somebody gave us. We would then hand them down until they could be handed down no more and then we would cut out any pieces of the garment that still had any wear and make those into quilts or other things. This may seem strange, but in the process of all this Mom showed me that you can take a little bit of nothing and make something beautiful out of it -- one of the greatest gifts she gave me.
Linda's storyA NC mountain girl these days, I like to quilt using my computerized longarm system. I started a small business solely through the internet which I operate out of my small log cabin. When not quilting for others, I am most likely working on a number of quilts just for fun. My professional career included teaching mathematics for 5 years followed by over 20 years of developing software for several companies. The most challenging opportunity was in the 80's when I was on the development team that brought credit card sales at the gas pump to reality. Yes, I talk fluent gas pump language.
When my daughter-husband team got interested in quilting and opened Greensboro's Ye Olde Forest Quilt Shoppe in August of 2008, I bought some fabric to try my hand at piecing. Just before Christmas 2009, the longarm system took over the guest bedroom. Stranded by a snow & ice covered driveway until mid March, I was on my own to face the challenges of longarming one quilt at a time. On October 13, 2010, Longarm Quilting Services became a properly registered business. On October 21, 2010, I received the first quilt from Joan. A year later I had the notion to send some fabric to Joan I had not had time to piece, thus J&L Quilters was born. From the first conversation on, ours has been a friendship graced with spontaneous laughter & mutual desire to do our very best on each quilt we make whether as a team or individually. We invite special requests for the quilt of your dreams.Quilt making takes time and attention to detail. Cost of quality materials alone is not cheap even without mark-up. Ahhh, but there is nothing like having the quilt you envision come to life. We love doing it. The best pay we get is appreciation. We're ready when you are.
When not making a special request quilt, we make what we like believing you will too. Browse our QUILT GALLERY & let us know what you think.
